Ask and ye will have.

It wasn’t very long ago when readers asked for a non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) corn tortilla chip from ALDI.   Here it is.

Although the package doesn’t say so directly, it has the USDA Organic label on the front of the bag.  One of the requirements to display this label is for the product to be non-GMO.  Check out this reference and comments to this post.

Regardless of how the corn chip got into the bag, it’s a pretty good tortilla chip.  In comparison to ALDI’s regular Clancy’s Tortilla Chips, the organic version is slightly less salty.  The label confirms the mouth test.  The organic chip label lists 75 mg of sodium per ounce.  The Clancy’s chip label lists 115 mg of sodium per ounce.  The organic chip might be slightly thicker, but that doesn’t noticeably affect the crunch factor.  The organic chip may also only come in the round chip version?  I was being prodded by a small lady with a large umbrella to get out of the way.  So I didn’t have much time to dig through the bags of chips looking for a restaurant style.

The only draw back to the organic chip, like most things organic, is the price.  The organic chip price is $1.99 per 11 ounce bag.  The regular Clancy’s chip is $1.19 per 13 ounce bag.  Without doing any comparison shopping, my guess is the $1.99 price compares very favorably with other organic chips being sold elsewhere.

Calories: 130 per ounce (28 g)       Price: $1.99
