I’ll call this one, Indian comfort food. With a mild spicy heat and a sauce that stays warm in the bowl, this one just feels good. While nursing a cold, this one actually soothed out my throat.
There aren’t any strong flavors that stand out, like many other Indian dishes have. If you’re looking for that, you’ll probably be disappointed. However, the overall experience is satisfying.
As noted at the top, there are real chunks of bite size paneer (cheese) in this dish. I was beginning to think the foil pouch canning process prevented these TJ’s Indian Fare dishes from having larger pieces of food in them. However even the soft 1 inch cubes of cheese made it through the canning process and into the bowl intact.
One strange thing you may need to get used to is the dark volcanic mud look of the sauce. The picture on the box is much more appealing. The sauce is spinach based (palak) which gives it that green tinge.
Trader Joe claims this food has “No Gluten Ingredients” and is Vegetarian.
